Burnout is a real thing.
It's more than just feeling a bit tired, it gets to the point of just not having the energy (physical, mental, spiritual) to live life. You might want to do things but can't be bothered. It can sometimes display similar symptoms to depression.
In highlighting the 6 Pillars of the Whole Player Model
Skills - having enough self awareness to be able to recognize the symptoms and enough self-compassion to act on it
Mindset - breaking away from the push-strive-grind mentality enough to step back and allow yourself to breathe
Nutrition - Allowing the body, mind and spirit to heal well includes filling it with good quality food, in a good environment
Self-management - potentially setting the schedule aside and following the guidance of your body
Recovery - full replenishment and recovery, not just getting enough to move on to the next task. The world still spins without you
Relationships - first and foremost, the relationship with yourself, do you trust yourself enough to give you what you need? Do you have supportive networks who can help you get what you need?
I have even seen some young teenaged high performers fall victim to burnout in recent years. They were mentally distracted, were constantly drained of energy and getting sick more frequently. With morning trainings, school all day, training in the afternoons and late dinners (or food in the car on the way to and from events - training and competition) and competition over weekends with not much sleep based recovery, it's no wonder!
